Following significant opposition, the government has changed its planned to withdraw tax relief for new entrants to the childcare voucher scheme. Instead it will retain basic rate tax relief (20%) for all tax-payers, creating annual savings of up to £900.

More than 92,000 people signed a petition on the 10 Downing Street website protesting against the proposed changes announced by Gordon Brown in September.
